Healthy Hemp

By: Ron Lagerquist

“What hemp seeds do have is a balance of omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids, great taste, and 26 percent complete protein, as well as numerous other micronutrients.”

I hesitate to talk too much about this incredible seed for fear that it may not be available to you. The controversy with hemp is it looks identical to the marijuana plant. You can imagine what kind of problem that would pose for the drug enforcement people. But unlike marijuana, hemp has no THC, the drug responsible for that overrated, romanticized high. What hemp seeds do have is a glorious balance of omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids, great taste, and 26 percent complete protein, as well as numerous other micronutrients. It’s only been a few years that this magic seed has been available in Canada and finally the price is falling, so it is comparable to a bottle of flax oil. Hemp has been cultivated for thousands of years for food and its fiber produces resilient garments and rope. I get a natural high just thinking about adding this nutty, green oil to my salad dressings or tickling the backs of awaiting greens with sprinkled hemp hearts. Go to your local health store and inquire if hemp hearts and oil are available in your area and if they are, do yourself a favor by doing your cells a favor and introduce this liquid gold into your daily diet.
